At last week’s conference entitled “Urban Sustainability and Population Health: Turning Data into Insights” hosted by Dr. Nancy Ross’ Geo-Social Determinants of Health (Geo-SDH) Research Group, Dr. Riva kicked off presentations for the day by speaking about housing, health, and inequalities in Canada.

Among other things, her presentation highlighted the importance of incorporating housing as a central theme in population health research and policies, as it plays a large part in ensuring equitable outcomes for population health, be it in urban or rural settings.

A recap of the event is posted on the Geo-SDH Research Group’s website. The event – attended by about 40 professors, students, and academic staff – brought together excellent researchers from various departments and backgrounds, including Sociology, Epidemiology, Nutrition, Geography, Computer Science, and Nutrition, providing opportunities for an enlightening exchange of ideas and discussions.
