Nuna is a Siglit Inuvialuktun word for &#8216;land&#8217;, &#8216;country&#8217;, and &#8216;soil&#8217;. Like several other Arctic coastal communities, Tuktoyaktuk is experiencing the brunt of climate change and its impacts. Erosion, subsidence and flooding are threatening the physical, cultural and social landscape of the community. At current rates of change, Tuktoyaktuk is having to rapidly adapt in place and plan for community relocation.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet Nuna est le r\u00e9sultat de consultations communautaires permanentes qui ont permis d'identifier les priorit\u00e9s et les mesures d'adaptation n\u00e9cessaires pour renforcer la r\u00e9silience de la communaut\u00e9 dans un climat qui \u00e9volue rapidement. Le projet vise \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre aux pr\u00e9occupations communautaires suivantes par le biais de cinq modules de travail (WP) diff\u00e9rents qui \u00e9tudi\u00e9s:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00c9rosion c\u00f4ti\u00e8re<\/li>\n<li>L'affaissement du sol<\/li>\n<li>Qualit\u00e9 de l'air (poussi\u00e8re)<\/li>\n<li>S\u00e9dimentation littorale<\/li>\n<li>et les impacts socio-\u00e9conomiques et culturels de ces risques.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>La professeure Mylene Riva est l'investigatrice principale du WP5, qui cherche \u00e0 comprendre la relation entre les changements physiques, sociaux et culturels du paysage. Morgen Bertheussen (doctorante) coordonne et dirige les activit\u00e9s de recherche du WP5, avec l'aide de Lauren Traboulsee (assistante de recherche de premier cycle).<\/p>\n<p>Through this collaborative research partnership, the Nuna project aligns with the objectives and actions outlined in Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK)&#8217;s National Inuit Strategy on Research by advancing Inuit governance in research (ITK objective 1), enhancing ethical conduct in research (ITK objective 2), ensuring that funding is aligned with Inuit research priorities (ITK objective 3), warranting Inuit access, ownership, and control over data and information (ITK objective 4), and lastly contributing capacity building (ITK objective 5).<\/p>\n<p>Le projet Nuna est dirig\u00e9 par le hameau de Tuktoyaktuk et le professeur Lim de l'universit\u00e9 de Northumbria (Royaume-Uni). Ce projet est financ\u00e9 par le programme Canada-Inuit-Nunangat-Royaume-Uni (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinuk.org\/projects\/nuna\/\">CINUK<\/a>), le programme de recherche et le Fonds de Recherche du Qu\u00e9bec (FRQ).
